Italy and Northwestern Europe 1944-45 Uniform and Equipment

Well Kitted Legionnaire of Our Unit in Our Late War US "Sponsored" Gear with French Adrian Helmet and British Water bottle with carrier.

Following the final allied victory in North Africa in 1943, and after sustaining heavy losses throughout the campaign, the 13th DBLE remained in North Africa, where its ranks were reinforced, and new stocks of uniforms and equipment were issued. This time, however, the sponsor of the 13th DBLE had changed from the British to the American Army. As a result, the 13th received substantial amounts of US issue equipment and uniforms. Again, previously distributed accouterments still in use. Mixes of British and American gear could be seen, though to a much lesser extent of intermingling than was the case for French vs. British items in North Africa. The kit worn by the 13th was virtually completely US. French equipment was largely fazed out, as it became impracticable to obtain. With the Kepi Blanc and Cheche remaining as the aesthetic Legion attributes. This would remain the primary uniform of the 13th DBLE and indeed much of the units of the French Foreign Legion through the end of the war.
